From the first values bright and early I saw Sean de Klerk in the adult pantomime Alice in Wonderland, I knew he’d be a weight of laughs.
There he was in his gold leggings, sequinned gold bodysuit and heels, huffing and puffing across the contrive as he tried to keep up with the choreography. His facial expressions were a scream.
We see De Klerk again as Tweedledee, corresponding brother of Tweedledum (played by Daisy Spencer).
Then comes my selected, the Mad Hatter’s tea party scene where De Klerk (as the Mad Hatter) had the audience in stitches with his OTT bringing off.
But my best bit had to be the courtroom scene, where there is something of a game show gamble to save Alice (Donnagh Roberts) from being beheaded and the Mad Hatter tries to safeguard her by pretending to be her lawyer – who can’t even remember his client’s name.
Tonight chatted with De Klerk about his tomfoolery in the panto: “A lot of the prematurely people say, ‘I can see you as the Mad Hatter’, or ‘That is the role for you’. I assumption I do have a quirky, insane character,” he joked, explaining that he got the part after in Sue Clarence offered it to him.
